Hello All!
Things are progressing on the publication front! I'm still waiting to hear about the cover design. But in the meantime, I've been working on something called a Reader Magnet to attract readers to the novel. Hopefully, that will get me some Advanced Readers that can help me build my review count.
Reviews are SO important for independent authors. There is a threshold on Amazon for their algorithm to start helping with sales. The more reviews a book has, the more people get to see that it exists!
So, I wrote a short story to use. I've run it through some of my beta readers. They liked it, but convinced me that it would make a better prologue to the novel than a separate story.
THAT MEANS that I have a prologue! I hadn't thought to use one, but after writing this, I think my readers are right. You can read an excerpt below

Excerpt from the prologue to Her Latent Charm
It was hot now. Not like it was in the big room that echoed. And a lot brighter. Too bright for her stinging eyes. So she kept them closed. Looked at the bright red-orange of her eyelids. And the glow that came from her heart. She liked that glow. It felt warm and kind.
It looked like her daddy’s glow. The rainbow light that tossed her in the air when they played in the trees. And the spirits that came from the light to help when they needed it.
She thought about her daddy, the fight, and the glow that he used to push her away. When her mommy told her to run, she listened. And the glowing hands of spirits that swallowed her and pulled her away from the danger.
Thinking about her mommy and daddy and all the yelling made her sad. She started to cry. She wanted them. Her fingers played with the silver key on a chain around her neck. Like they always did when she was sad or scared.
But why were her feet cold and wet?
She opened her eyes and blinked at the very bright sun overhead. There was a white and grey bird. She knew what that was! A seagull!
Lifting herself from what she realized was scratchy, warm sand, she saw her feet touched by the edge of a gentle wave that washed up. She was on the beach! She loved the beach!
But why was she here? Why did the glow bring her?
